so now that the history lesson is over, let’s just move ahead to the size. it’s not only the width – coming in at a modest 45mm – but it’s the thickness (13mm) as well that makes this a beast of a watch. these numbers would typically scare some away, but the watch really doesn’t feel (or really even look) that large, and I have a rather small wrist. something about the wire lugs and the narrow (18mm) band make the size of the case size look correctly and not feel over-the-top, which is important for a vintage-inspired piece.
The craftsmanship on the dial is amazing – the numerals appear as if they’ve been hand-painted on, although this was hard to grasp in photos. The seconds sub-dial is another nod to a general design element in early trench watches. the crown features the Tissot signature, as any proper luxury watch should. The band is a sturdy, brown leather nato style strap, which appears so good with the wire lugs. It’s really comfortable and cozy on the wrist. I’ll probably invest in a black leather nato to switch things up in the future.
in my opinion, the size allows me really appreciate all that went into this watch as a matter of fact. while 45mm doesn’t typically scream vintage, I think the history behind the design allows for a pretty solid exception. besides, it’s a limited edition so I don’t expect to see many of these on wrists or the secondary market.

In execution, the effect of the case and glass makes for nice viewing of the bi-axial tourbillon. It makes a single rotation per minute on one axis, and a rotation every 30 seconds on the other axis. Considering that tourbillon is French for “whirlwind,” it is a particularly apt description in this instance.
The dial itself is rather particular too with the only thing “normal” being the small sub-dial that displays the time, which is located at the top right.
The date, however, is much simpler to read. In place of a typical date wheel, under the dial for the time are two arching rows of numerals. And the date is indicated by a white disk that travels underneath the numerals that highlight the date.
By no means, no would be possible if not for the fact that Hublot is a make a layout and establishes its own movements. And indeed, this is one point that Hublot is keen to impress upon everyone. What is sexier, however, is that it consists of 356 components and that it beats at 3Hz with a power reserve of 120 hours or 5 days. It is also well-finished – not in the classical style, but in that unique industrial style that characterizes replica Hublot movements. Much of the movement is anthracite and it has beveled anthracite bridges, circular graining on the wheels, polished teeth, and a finely polished tourbillon cage.

However, I still pleasantly hesitated between the sizes of 38mm – 42mm for most of my daily watches. I feel that 44mm wide cases can generally offer a nice experience for most individuals. Another stunning feature is the way the double-AR-coated sapphire crystal appears almost invisible over the pilot chronograph’s high-contrast slate dial. This is a trait IWC is known for and something that’s playfully stressed by that blueish hue resulting from the AR coating that we know all too well.
Compared to the graceful and gorgeous elements you’d find on IWC’s Le Petit Prince models, the tribute to Antoine de Saint-Exupery on this replica watch is rather subtle. Inside of the sub-dial at 6 o’clock, you’ll find a single letter A. that is also a recurring theme in other Antoine de Saint-Exupery watches within the IWC line. It’s unobtrusive, tasteful, and is classically out of sight unless you really pay attention to it. Aside from the features outlined above, IWC also includes a soft iron cage under the hood, which serves to provide shock resistance and anti-magnetic shielding. There’s also just one strap option, and that’s the brown calfskin Santoni strap that looks beautiful.
As a whole, when talking about the point of the design, the IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition “Antoine De Saint Exupery” is a success, as far as I am concerned. It’s completely exciting or revolutionary in any way, but it’s a collector’s piece and a prestige item for IWC, who certainly paid attention to the details. Just for some context, another 2017 release like the Sinn 910 Anniversary Limited Edition Split Second Chronograph serves up some pretty steep competition for IWC in terms of value but that’s not what the purchaser of this watch cares about.

Case finishing and design is especially “Carrera” given the contrast brushed and polished surfaces, together with the signature angular lug layout of the Carrera collection. With that said, even if both models contain TAG Heuer Carrera classic DNA, they have various differences. The simplest method to see this is by looking at the side of the case. The replica TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 is a more traditional solid line, whereas the TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 01’s lugs and middle case are separated as distinct factors.
